Zain Timimi

Founder of Whiteway Counseling

My name is Zain, and I’m a registered Mental Health Counsellor with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). I was provoked and encouraged by many friends to become a counsellor after supporting many of them by providing safe space to discuss and be heard. Throughout my life, I have been in contact with many individuals who suffers from severe forms of anger, anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, suicidal ideation, sexual assaulted victims, and
individuals with relationship issues.

One of my hobbies is traveling and during my travel found myself in contact with asylum seekers, whom I was able to assist them by providing mental and emotional support. These individuals required therapy but were unable to access it due their circumstances at the time. I have experienced many situations where I was providing a safe environment to these individuals who were struggling with many mental health issues, and this encouraged me to delve deeper into my reading on psychology, philosophy, and biology to be able to improve my skills and understanding so I can provide the best support I can.
Upon Arriving in Australia, I have completed two bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Paramedic were I was working in the public health system and saw the mental impact on some patients and colleagues. That leads, me more to how and what I can do to reduce the impact of/ this trauma to improve individual’s wellbeing. During this period, I was also an active member within my community, to provide assistance, advice when I can, guidance, and support to families and young adults who were struggling with integrating in the Australian society., I support many young adult and encouraged them to pursuit all forms of personal development, and educational institutes such as universities through group and individual session.

After all that, I decided to study and qualify for counselling, so I have completed Master’s degree in counselling and have done many hours on volunteering and placement with mental health sufferers. After graduation, I have begun working in a program called” Covid Monitor” with
Northern Health Hospital and my role was in supporting the Covid patient via telehealth. This was a support system/program introduced by the Victorian government to help bridge the gap between the hospital and individuals who struggled with Covid symptoms and obtaining the right medical
interventions, especially those who does not speak English. In this role I was able to provide support to families who were suffering or had a family member who had Covid during isolation. Using my previous knowledge from the hospital coupled with my skills as a counsellor, I was able to support
these individuals psychologically and provide them with medical procedures they must take to remain safe under clinician and health professional’s supervision. Moreover, recently I have been working closely in an Organisation (if you want say its name Arabic Welfare) that provides wide
range of services in helping the community, mostly, individuals who suffer from all types of mental health such as; anxiety, depression, gambling, relationship and identity issues, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). As well as finical, and, advocacy and
administrative support.
